PALM SPRINGS GAY LIFE

Ever come to Palm Springs? Then you know many things about such a very small place. First and foremost know this… PS is very gay, as in LGBT, homosexual, queer and the like. It’s made up of many fabulous Alpha fishes swimming around a small pond trying to find their way, fit it between the palm trees and decide how to make a life happen in a very quiet transient town often opposite of the bigger metropolitan cities from where they come from. Some come to retire but soon find the quiet stillness of the valley maddening and try picking up an old trade or start building on a dream. I believe one of the reasons I stay so active writing and trying to better our lives in because I just can’t sit still and do nothing. I encourage others to do the same, to keep pushing through whatever they believe stops them! Gay Palm Springs is always growing with new members of the community moving here daily. We would always welcome more of us. The fierce, the proud, the Gays of Palm Springs. For so many of us small town and rural Gay folk, Coming Out and living life with true freedom implied a migration to get out and get 'lost' in the anonymity of the Big City urban core. And there in the Gay Ghettos we found our community and camraderie, love and sex, dreams and disillusionment.

In some ways, Palm Springs Gay life is such a _perfect_ fit for me. UBIQUITOUS Queer culture and freedom, small-town enough that exudes the NORMALCY of Gay life from end to end. That's something you don't get in the urban core Gay getto, where the moment you cross a certain intersection, you're right back into Straight suburbia.

Palm Springs is utterly unique in so many ways. Big City freedom in a Small Town but with that transient endless urban influence of Hollywood and L.A. and to International fun-seekers from beyond. And that's why I keep coming back. A certain, 'It's not perfect, but it is so Fabulous' something off the beaten path that many GLBT men and women find so appealing...
