EROTIC CITY COME ALIVE
The 9th Annual Erotic Art Expo lands once again at the Tool Shed on February 3rd and pushes through the 14th, including an exhibition of the art and a Silent Auction running the entire length of the show. This yearly event celebrates the artistic creators of our valley and beyond that have made an impact on many of our lives by either donning their masterpieces on our walls at home, framed in spots around rooms, or in many bars and nightclubs across our familiar lands. These artists invoke emotion, excitement, lust, fear and fantasy while possibly conjuring something entirely different with every audience. I encourage everyone to stop by and see what it does for you. You may be pleasantly surprised and hopefully turned on just a bit. Have a drink, peruse the expo and see where the night, or moment, takes you.
The event was originally created by former Mr. Tool Shed 2003 Dennis Cramer and although he has stepped down into an advisory capacity this year, his work has been unrelenting and commendable. Chris Rees, the owner of Tool Shed, said this about Dennis’ incredible achievements, “The Tool Shed would like to acknowledge and thank Dennis for his eight years of leadership for the event, which to date has raised in excess of $26,000 for various Palm Springs community charitable organizations.” The proceeds’ from this year’s Expo provide additional funding for the Desert AIDS Project’s Free & Confidential HIV Testing program to continue prevention and attention.
Everything kicks off on Thursday the 3rd with the Opening Night Reception from 6-8 p.m. Many of the celebrated artists that are participating in the Expo will be on hand. There’s also a scheduled opportunity for Brett Klein from the Desert AIDS Project to do a presentation about the DAP’s Free & Confidential HIV Testing Program during the evening, as well. Appetizers and socializing shall ensue and no doubt cruising too! This will be a great time for those interested in bidding in the Silent Auction to get the war going with your fellow auction revelers. Be generous if you are able for such a great cause benefiting so many. And remember that you are doing something truly wonderful as just one person for many other people that you may not know now but one day possibly will.
The Artist Meet & Greet will happen on the 12th from 3-6 p.m. This is an up-close and personal opportunity to meet all of the amazing artists who have donated pieces to the Expo. These creators of the erotic images that get you off will be in attendance for discussion, commissions and autographs, and many will have various pieces for viewing and even for purchase! Additional selections that were donated will also be available for purchase. It would be hard to leave the Tool Shed empty handed during this extravaganza. Brett Klein will again be around for a presentation during the early evening representing the DAP.
These giving artists truly deserve our attention, our respect, and our applause for producing imagery and artistry that wouldn’t be if it weren’t for them making it. Please keep in mind that there is no art until someone makes and creates it. These brave producers all bring something different and interesting to the scoping eye and willing spirit. With the new artists that are participating in this year’s show, intriguing entries and imagery to stir the soul will surely be seen. This is my personal THANK YOU to all of the artists for their time and trouble, versatile visions, soulful imagery, and for giving us their all.
A special bonus for those wanting more comes the way of my good friend (and co-worker) Luis Carballo, who you’ve surely seen as the hunky model on the Erotic Art Expo posters. Luis will also be in attendance on Saturday the 12th signing autographs, posters, bare asses… whatever is holding a Sharpie marker. I believe he will also be selling raffle tickets throughout the evening. He’s a super guy, with a big heart and body to match so come get your picture taken with him and meet the man behind the muscle. Luis will be at the Tool Shed from 3-6 p.m.
I had a quick chance to speak with Luis about his involvement with the Expo and why taking part is important to him. Mr. Carballo humbly offered, “I was approached by Dane Luna about using one of my images for the poster and as soon as I found out the charity receiving the proceeds from the event, it was something I felt compelled to do. The work the DAP does and the federal and local funding is so important I wanted to help as I could. A lot of friends and acquaintances are depending on the Desert AIDS Project. Any donation or fundraising for the DAP is important.”
The Closing Night Reception will bring the eleven-day production to a grand finish on Monday the 14th from 6-8 p.m. This will be the last chance to top that last bid by submitting your winning bid! Art can be collected by those highest bidders at 8 p.m. and available for that cleared wall space at home. This is a special and rare chance to get something new for the home, the dungeon, your office, a gift for someone who would appreciate thought, or to simply support by donating to the charity at hand, the Free & Confidential HIV Testing Program at the Desert AIDS Project. This is an amazing and giving organization that depends on events like this, no matter how big nor small, to create funds that better people’s lives and protect those in need.
Another round of applause to Dennis Cramer for starting the balls rolling and encouragement for you to continue their path by attending and purchasing something. And a personal thanks to the Tool Shed for stepping up and continuing a tradition that has only grown and bettered the community as a whole. Kudos you! Look at all the good you’re doing. The bar will be hopping for this big event so you shouldn’t miss out! Don’t be the one that hears what a good time it was. Be the one that knows what a good time it was!
